Flags of Our Fans: Troost Avenue

Troost Avenue has an incredibly complicated history.

For years, it served as a line of demarcation in Kansas City for economic and cultural reasons. Decades of redlining reinforced that idea further, and only recently has the healing begun.

Looking at this from our soccer lens for this series, that divide is playing a role in theWorld Cup.

Children’s Mercy Park, home of Sporting KC, is in one of the poorest counties of Missouri. Having one of the most expensive tournaments in American sports in an economic climate is a microcosm of what this World Cup has become.

To understand this situation further, I reached out to fans to discuss this history and how it will play a role in one of Kansas City’s biggest sporting moments
