Immortal Indiana
There was a photo that stood out to me as I was trying to find pictures to share for this week’s newsletter.
Kahlil Benson, an offensive lineman at Indiana University, wears the number #67 for the program. Ironically, 67 was the last year the football Hoosiers won the Big Ten conference.
As he and his family celebrated their son’s victory over the defending champion Ohio State Buckeyes, a photographer captured this moment in time.
To go from having your last championship year on your chest to being the team that breaks that title drought is an incredible story on its own.
In that photo, one of the family members was wearing a beautiful hat, adorn with the phrase “67 reasons”, celebrating Khalil’s accomplishment.
I’m certain that if you talked with every fan in the sellout crowd of Lucas Oil Stadium this past Saturday, you would find more than 67 reasons as to why they choose to follow or support their program. They could be familial, alumnus, or state pride based.
Yet, as you’ll read today, every Indiana football fan and family member had their own deeply personal reason to celebrate the program’s first title in 58 years.
Here’s what they had to say…
