Fanfare: A Sit Down with the 2025 NFL Fans of The Year

In the short existence of this project, this yearly event has become one of my favorite columns to write.

While this has become more popular in more recent years, the NFL’s investment into programs like the Fan of the Year has been able to shine a light on some of the great fans that truly embody the idea of “raising the passion of your city.”

Every year, I try to highlight those fans from not only the NFL’s Fan of The Year program (you’ll meet Dr. Yvette Richards soon), but from an independent organization that has made the commitment to raising up their fellow fan a year long mission.

The Pro Football Ultimate Fan Association (PFUFA) is an organization of NFL superfans that are not only passionate about their team, but just as equally passionate about their community. Their mission “to promote the fellowship of all fans, encourage sportsmanship and support charitable activities” has been powering the organization since its inception in 1999.

As this project began to evolve from masters’ thesis to independent project, the PFUFA has served as an integral partner in making Heart of a Fan into what it is today.

This week’s column in particular is one of my favorites to write, as we introduce you to some of the many members that make the sport of football so special during the game’s biggest week.

I hope you enjoy meeting and reading about some of the great members that make the PFUFA such a unique and a much needed organization in our fandom world!
